Groups of young artists and budding designers planning a grand Atlanta holiday won’t want to miss a stop at this brilliant assemblage of cool modern displays located on the ground floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building, formerly known as the Atlanta International Museum of Art & Design. The Museum of Design Atlanta’s galleries comprise more than 5000 square feet of special presentations, each showcasing the impact of design on everyday life; MODA is unique in that it never hosts a permanent collection, nor more than one at a time. The museum strives to achieve its mission with an ever-fresh series of engaging and intriguing exhibitions showcasing important design achievements across a multitude of fields; their “Design Conversation” program welcomes an exciting new guest speaker every month and lets visitors in on design professionals’ and practitioners’ cool tricks of the trade, while the Young Explorers class in The Design Bar in the MODA lobby is a great place for groups to exercise their creativity and flex design skills. MODA’s exciting Young Explorers class lets students, aged six to fifteen, work in Minecraft to custom-design a 3D object of their choice and print it on a Makerbot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer, while Wonder Women aged six to nine are encouraged to express their inner architect in MODA’s Goldi Blox workshop. Once they familiarize themselves with Goldi Blox tricks and techniques, they collaborate to design and build a working machine! MODA’s mission is to “advance the understanding and appreciation of design as the convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions, education, and programming for visitors of all ages.”
