Salem Wax Museum

When your student group visits Boston you may want to stop by and explore the Salem Wax Museum. There are several interesting attractions to enjoy. There is also a walking tour available for the students as well. The Salem Wax Museum has an open gallery style that contains 50 London made wax figures. The scenes in the galleries depict the history of Salem from its founding in 1621, to the hysteria that occurred in 1692, and continues through to the mercantile trade during the 18th century. The students will also have the opportunity to learn about events through interactive activities. For example, they can learn about nautical knot tying. The group may also want to have a first-hand experience of detention during the Witch Hysteria by being locked in a recreated jail cell. The Salem Witch Village is a 15-minute guided tour, where the students will learn about both the myth and reality of witchcraft in both the ancient and modern world. The guide will discuss the origin of stereotypes such as devil worship, flying on brooms and black cats. Students will be taken through the indoor maze and witness demonstrations of scenes that mark some of the important landmarks in witchcraft history. During the month of October, or by special request, your group can explore six haunted attractions. For example, you can take a walking tour known as the Ghostly Walking Tour. During the experience students will learn about the history of the building and the different accounts of spirit activity in the area. The group will see places such as the Joshua Ward House and the Old Salem Prison.
