Adventure Aquarium

The fifth largest aquarium in the country, Adventure Aquarium located in Camden, New Jersey minutes from Philadelphia, houses over two million gallons of water and over 8,500 animals. From prehistoric dinosaurs of the sea to deep sea critters and warm water invertebrates, Adventure Aquarium has it all!

Start off your tour at the Dinosaurs of the Deep exhibit where you can see life-size replicas of giant marine dinosaurs, a huge prehistoric reef, interactive gallery displays, and new living species like the Giant Pacific Octopus added to the tanks. From there, explore the 15 exhibits in Caribbean Currents and head to Creature Feature where you can touch live sea stars, anemones, sea cucumbers, shrimp, crabs, and more. Hippo Haven is where two Nile hippos live and swim together in graceful harmony while the dangerous swimmers live in Shark Realm, home to over 20 sharks and 850 animals. While all of the tanks are impressively large, Ocean Realm is the biggest at 760,000 gallons and over 850 species. If you like semi-aquatic animals, meet a large family of African black-footed penguins on Penguin Island.

Some of the many species you may meet here include exotic fish like the Pinecone fish, cuttlefish, butterflyfish, clownfish, and Hippo Tang. Of course the tropical fish are beautiful but everyone likes to visit the dangerous creatures with large teeth like the many species of sharks such as the bonnethead and bamboo sharks or even the great hammerhead, all housed here. Eels, octopi, sea stars, sea horses, jellyfish, stingrays, Orinoco crocodiles, and a variety of frogs and turtles also live within the exhibits at Adventure Aquarium.

Open 365 days a year from 10 am-5 pm, Adventure Aquarium is the Philadelphia area’s premier aquarium destination to see all of your marine favorites and learn about the deep blue sea.
