First Landing State Park

During the visit to Virginia Beach you may want to stop by and explore First Landing State Park. The group can go on a hike, fish, bike, or go for a swim at the Park. You can also have a picnic lunch during the visit with your group. The students will enjoy the beautiful landscape and the water. The trails at First Landing State Park cover 19 miles and there are a total of nine trails for the students to investigate! You will discover the Fox Run Trail, the High Dune Trail, Bald Cypress Trail, and the Kingfisher Trail. The High Dune Trail is a quarter mile trail that crosses through and over a forest covered dune bridge. During the cooler months, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of the lower swamp lands due to the fact that the trees do not have leaves. The Trail Center is the main access location to get to the trails. Guests will find a display that showcases local wildlife, the Park’s habitat, and interesting geological and human history of the Park and the surrounding area. The Chesapeake Bay Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the calm waves. First Landing State Park’s beach allows public access to the bay coastline. The students will see natural vegetation such as dunes, shrubs, and the maritime forest along the back portion of the Chesapeake Bay Beach. There are no lifeguards but you may take a swim at your own risk. There are four boardwalks which are the main access points to walk to the beach.
