During your visit to Virginia Beach your group may want to explore the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. The Museum contains fascinating exhibits that span 237 years of history. Students of all ages will enjoy learning about the United States Navy. There are also learning resources available at the Museum for students to explore. There are a variety of interesting artifacts and exhibits for the group to view. One of the exhibits is known as the Battleship Wisconsin Silver Service which contains a collection of 20 pieces of silver from the wardroom of the ship. The group will view artifacts in the Museum such as a 1798 18 pound cannon from the frigate USS Constellation, a torpedo warhead from the German submarine U-52, and hundreds of images, paintings and photographs. You will also find original builder’s models of several naval ships. For example, there is a model of the aircraft carrier USS America. The Museum offers visitors a self-guided tour of the deck on the Battleship Wisconsin. This ship is one of the largest and the last battleship built by the U.S. Navy. The student group can also take a guided tour of the topside of the Battleship Wisconsin for an additional charge. You will go back in time and experience this fascinating ship which has earned five battle stars during World War II.
