Historic Jamestowne

While your student group is visiting Williamsburg you may want to explore Historic Jamestowne which was the first English Settlement. There are a variety of tour options for your students to experience. Teachers may also look at resources prior to the trip such as lesson plans and several interesting interactive exercises. Historic Jamestowne offers entertaining and educational tours for students of all ages. One of the tours offered is known as Archaeology in Action. During the experience, the group will be led by a guide and tour the original James Fort site. You will learn the story behind the nearly two million artifacts that were found by the Jamestown Rediscovery Archaeological Team. The program is for students in grades three through five. Another tour is the Finds and Forensics Tour. During the program, the students will learn about the interdisciplinary research approach that is leading to new discoveries at America’s birthplace. Historic Jamestowne also offers Rediscovery Tours for your group to enjoy. In the Trenches is one of the tours available. The student group will have the opportunity to come under the ropes of James Fort and walk on the grounds where famous individuals have trod such as Captain John Smith, Pocahontas, and Queen Elizabeth II. This tour is offered on the third Tuesday from April to October. There is also the Curator’s Artifact tour available for the group. During the presentation, students will have the chance to examine interesting artifacts and witness recovery of items that haven’t seen the light of day in 400 years. There are also Archaeology Walking Tours offered as well.
