The Sports Legends Museum is located in the same area. The group can visit both of them on the same day. The Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum contains fascinating exhibits on display. For example, the Ruthian Record exhibit explores Babe’s outstanding record as an amazing player in baseball. The students will see his records as an amazing slugger, a record-setting pitcher and a school-aged catcher. Another interesting exhibit is the Historic House. Students will be able to take in the sight of the upstairs bedroom where Babe Ruth was born. He was born in 1895. His actual name was George Herman Ruth. He was the son of a German saloon keeper. Babe Batted Here is a fascinating display of how the player learned to play baseball. The students will find interesting artifacts such as a catcher’s mitt, a jersey, and a hymnal book that was used during his time at St. Mary’s Industrial School. The student group may want to visit the Sports Legends Museum. This location is the state’s sports history headquarters. The student group can view interesting exhibits that focus on both baseball and football. One of the exhibits is known as the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame. The first players were inducted in 1953. Babe Ruth, Jimmi Fox, and Frank the “Home Run” Baker are a few all-star players that were inducted.
