While your student group is visiting Chicago, you should see Cloud Gate which is a well-known sculpture and located inside Millennium Park. This exquisite piece of art was designed by a British artist named Anish Capoor. It weighs 110-tons. Participants will have the opportunity to take a photo of the sculpture as part of the experience.
The sculpture is made of steel plates that reflect Chicago’s famous Skyline. The pupils will find a 12-foot arch that provides a “gate” to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture. Your group will have the opportunity to touch its mirror-like surface and see your image reflected from different angles. Cloud Gate was Capoor’s first outdoor work to be installed in the United States. The Cloud Gate sculpture was inspired by liquid mercury and is among the largest of its kind in the world. The attraction measures 66 feet long by 33 feet high.
The British Artist was born in 1954. Capoor began his distinguished career during the 1970s in London England. After more than 20 years, he has emerged as one of the most prolific and respected sculptors around the globe. In 2004, the artist unveiled the Cloud Gate Monument. It is the anchor of Millennium Park. Capoor is an internationally acclaimed artist who has participated in various group art shows in locations such as the Whitechapel Gallery, The Royal Academy and Serpentine Gallery in London, and Paris. There are collections that are displayed in several museums in the United States. These collections are in states such as New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
