Four Day San Antonio Flavor

Day 1

  • Paseo del Rio – Start with a walking tour along San Antonio’s famous river walk. This pedestrian walkway is the center of town with its cobbled paths beside the jade-green water, passing some of the area’s most popular cafes, galleries, and boutiques.
  • Peruse La Villita National Historic District – Designed to look like a Spanish or Mexican village, this area is filled with shops and restaurants.
  • HemisFair Park – Originally created for the 1968 World’s Fair, you will have plenty of time to explore this 15-acre park.

Day 2

  • Mission de San Antonio de Valero – The site where a small army of Texas volunteers held out against the troops of Santa Anna for 13 days. The war ultimately saw the death of every Alamo defender including Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett. Remember the Alamo!
  • San Jose Missions – You local guide will next take you to the largest of the original five missions, a stunning example of Spanish colonial architecture. Texas’ first flour mill, a granary and Indian dwellings are on the grounds as well.
  • River Cruise – Enjoy a narrated boat cruise that winds through San Antonio’s downtown for a different view of the San Antonio River.
  • El Mercado – You have have plenty of time to browse this authentic Mexican marketplace featuring imported and local handicrafts.
  • IMAX Film – Put yourself right in the middle of the action when you watch a dramatic depiction of the Battle of the Alamo projected onto the six-story IMAX theater screen.

Day 3

  • sanantonio-towerofamericasTower of the Americas – The Tower, standing 750 feet tall, offers a panoramic view of San Antonio and the surrounding area. The glass-walled elevators ascend over 500 feet to the observation level.
  • Splashtown – Offering 18 landscaped acres of cool, clean water excitement, this water-park has something for everyone. Float down a lazy river or zoom down the five story speed slides.

Day 4

  • The Institute of Texan Culture – View the social histories of 30 diverse Texan cultures with special attention to Native-American and African-American regional history. Make sure you explore the section documenting attempts to introduce the camel to West Texas.
  • San Fernando Cathedral – Visit the oldest cathedral in the United States and learn about its trouble-ridden history. This is the place where Mexican dictator Santa Anna raised the flag of “no quarter” during the battle of the Alamo.
